9th Street YCC, an environmental non-profit organization dedicated to educating urban youth in Chester, PA, about the importance of sustainability, is launching a fundraiser to support their ongoing efforts. The organization aims to raise $5,000 to cover essential updates to their community van and make necessary repairs to their building.
One of the key programs offered by 9th Street YCC is the Environmental Youth Corps, a year-round initiative designed for children aged 12-16. The 9th Street YCC Environmental Corps provides hands-on outdoor activities combined with a mentoring conversation program. These activities focus on critical environmental issues such as climate change, tree planting, tree trimming, and waterfront clean-ups. Each program session takes place on a Saturday once a month, and participants receive a $30 stipend for each monthly activity they attend, fostering both environmental stewardship and financial responsibility.
Through tree planting, cleanups, and educational curriculum, 9th Street YCC has been actively engaging children in the Chester community, teaching them the significance of environmental stewardship. The community van plays a crucial role in their operations, enabling them to water plants and transport materials to parks and gardens throughout the city. However, the van’s transmission is in need of repair, which is one of the primary goals of this fundraiser.
In addition to the van repairs, the fundraiser will also support the replacement of drywall in the bathroom and porch area of the building where students gather to learn and participate in the program. These improvements are essential to ensure that the children have a safe and comfortable environment to foster their learning and growth.
Barron K. Lacy Sr., Executive Director of 9th Street YCC, expressed his gratitude for the support the organization has received from the City of Chester, which owns the building they operate from. “We are incredibly thankful for the unwavering support from the City of Chester,” Lacy stated. “Their commitment to our cause has been instrumental in allowing us to continue our mission of educating and empowering the youth in our community to become environmental stewards.”
By contributing to this fundraiser, donors will be directly supporting the vital work of 9th Street YCC, enabling them to continue their impactful programs, such as the Environmental Youth Corps, and inspire the next generation of environmental leaders in Chester, PA.
